One of our key functions in running a referendum is to oversee the regulatory framework controlling the activities of any political parties, other organisations and individuals that are participating in the referendum campaign. We have responsibility for ensuring that anyone involved in the campaign complies with certain financial controls, and also for allocating assistance to designated organisations representing those campaigning for a specified outcome to the referendum.
